Hello,
the publication of the official pen and paper role playing game "Tails of Equestria" is drawing closer and already I am very curious and excited about what ideas they may have come up with
Friends of mine and I started an Equestria based pen and paper role playing game last summer already and I am not exaggerating when I say that it has been the greatest pen and paper RPG I have ever played. Accustomed to the "usual" pen and paper RPGs in which characters tend to be more ready to draw a sword against someone else than any Equestrian pony would be, it has been great fun and an interesting challenge to play an RPG set in Equestria and with characters acting (for the most part) like Equestrian ponys probably would.
Apart from this challenge I just love how much creativity all participants of the RPG brought into it, drawings, maps, coded or concealed secret messages, and countless characters (both player and non player characters) and locations were created or imagined for this game.
For the "artsy" contributions I made myself, I created a new gallery folder titled Equestria Pen and Paper Role Playing Game.
While I probably won't lay out the entire story of the RPG in epic detail in the texts accompanying the images (for that would make a very long (and epic) fanfiction of its own) I will give you some information which I hope will help you understand the core points of the story.
Some outlines of the setting of our Equestria Pen and Paper Role Playing Game
The game was set in the Equestria of the series almost 1000 years before the events of the series. According to the game timeline (which may be in conflict with some other sources), some 30 years have passed since the first Hearth's Warming and the union of the three tribes, a few years before Celestia and Luna made their entry. Discords reign is supposed to have lasted for 2 years and ended some 15 years ago. King Sombra is supposed to have been defeated (taking the Crystal Empire with him) some six years ago and the clash of the Royal Sisters, resulting in the banishment of Luna / Nightmare Moon is supposed to have happened some two years before the start of our game.
One important point for us is to do our best to make up a game story that could (in theory at least) have happened in the actual story canon. Therefore we refer to characters who lived back then (Celestia, Luna, Starswirl the Bearded etc.) but avoid actual contact with them. The only official character our characters ever saw was Celestia and only from the distance during the second ever Summer Sun Celebration (recently her frequent absence from Canterlot has been revealed to be partly based because of events laid out in the part of the Fiendship is Magic Comic that deals with Queen Chrysalis).
The Equestria of 1000 years ago in which our game is set differs a bit from that in the series. It is not as densly settled. Ponyville and some other places from the series don't yet exist, while Manehatten is still a "one horse village" so to speak. Travelling doesn't work in the speed and comfort of (not yet invented) trains. Outside the larger towns (Canterlot, Vanhoover and Cloudsdale have so far been featured most promiently) the land often has a bit of a "frontier" atmosphere rather than that of a perfectly save and thoroughly organized realm.
Maybe the most important difference is that the whole recent changes (union of the tribes, rule of the royal sisters etc.) are not quite as established as they will be 1000 years later. Most ponies embrace the changes, but there are some (sometimes with valid arguments) who are not quite so eager about some aspects. At the same time Celestia too seems to be not yet as confident about parts of her role as she will be later (much like Twilight wasn't right after she became a princess). For example the events surrounding the conflict of the royal sisters and Luna's banishment are for the most parts kept a state secret at this point.
Our group (who got to know each other more or less by chance while travelling to Canterlot to attend the second ever Summer Sun Celebration) more or less by accident came accross an organisation whom we dubbed the "Shutties" (I think that name was originally based on a German word which would imply for the organisation to be "shady"). The members of the organization, for very different reasons, are working to end the reign of Celestia. Throughout the course of our first adventure it became ever clearer that the members of this organization themselves are for the most part exploited as puppets by Revus, a cousin of Luna and Celestia who vanished some eleven years before the events of the game. Revus had been sent on an expedition into the west, mostly to check out one of several outposts which the late Pegasi Commander Hurricane (the one from the Hearth's Warming Eve story) had secretly ordered to be established even after the begin of the rule of the royal sister.
Something happened during the expedition (we haven't so far found out what exactly) that turned the unicorn Revus into an extremely powerful, but also extremely unscrupulous, deceitful and power hungry being styling himself as "Darcuse". Darcuse is the main antagonist in our story so far and he is ruthless in exploiting the minds of Ponys who for the one or the other reason (often involving personal losses in the days of Discord or Sombra, misgivings about the sudden turn of Equestria into a monarchy, or unanswered questions about what happened with Luna) have misgivings about the course Equestria.

Setting out for the PonyCon Holland
I'm about to set out for the PonyCon Holland. Mostly due to Corona it will be the first convention in a very long time and the first time since 2019 to see many fellow bronies again. I am very much looking forward to this and also to offering a my little pony origami workshop tomorrow. Unfortunately my workshop coincides with a voice actor panel of Cathy Weseluck (who voices Spike, Coco Pommel and Mayor Mare) which I would have loved to attend and which I fear many will attend who might otherwise be interested in the origami workshop, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Funnily enough the town part of Zeist where the convention takes place is called Griffensteyn, which obviously is Dutch for Griffonstone, how much more awesome can it get?
Forms of Fanart panel at the TrotCon this weekend
From Friday (December 4th 2020) to Sunday (December 6th 2020) there will be the Next Saturday (September 19th 2020) there will be the TrotCon Online https://trotcononline.net On Sunday from 6:45am to 8:45am Eastern Time I'm going to contribute (via zoom) with a little panel titled "Forms of Fanart". As you know it is kind of my thing to try out many different types of crafts and I just love learning about many different ways to turn all kinds of materials (e.g. paper, stone, wood, metal etc.) into something ponyish. There are many ways to keep oneself busy and creating something nice to brighten up ones spirit, especially in times when contacts with friends that would do much of the brightening up in regular times need to be limited. I'm going to present many (can't promise all of them depending on the time frame) of these forms of fanart along with helpful tipps for anybrony who would like to try give one or some of them a try. If you have any questions (both before and during the
A little shoutout for an awesome artist's giveaway
Hello, I would like to turn everybody's attention to the giveaway conducted by Themisto97 , celebrating his 200th watcher. He is a great friend and an awesome artist. Themisto creates amazing chalk drawings, awesome laser pyrographies and mindblowingly beautiful acrylights: A giveaway in which you can get a free commission by such a talented artist is something you shouldn't want to miss and participating is pretty much as easy as can be. Here is a link to all the details about his giveaway.
I'll give a panel at the Ponyfest Online 4.0
Next Saturday (September 19th 2020) there will be the fourth Ponyfest Online: https://discord.gg/xJtUGF At 10:30 Eastern Daylight Time I'll give a panel on "Unicorns and other fable Equines". It will be a scientific but entertaining presentation about the development of unicorns and other equine creatures from human mythology through the centuries. We all know and love the ponies of the series, but few of us have examined the role of equine characters in myths and legends predating My Little Pony. I had asked if it was possible for my panel to be set at a time late enough to make it accessible to American bronies as well as bronies from Europe. The staff of the Ponyfest was kind enough to grant that wish :-) If you are interested I would be very happey to see you there.
